Tahlia Priete is an Oakland based artist working in multiple disciplines including, works on paper, printmaking and contemporary glass works.
Originally from the east coast, she has lived in the Bay Area for over 25 years. Primarily self-taught, Tahlia gained her knowledge in art through practice, the occasional evening class or workshop, and has participated in multiple AIR programs including the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Studios Midwest program at Knox College, CAMAC in France and a glass apprenticeship in Siena, Italy. In recent years, she’s been working primarily on paper exploring mono-printing, solar plate printing and pen & ink and more recently exploring new glass ideas. Continuous line is the prominent feature that dominates each piece. It reflects the flow of how she creates, so that each work feels balanced. When a piece doesn’t seem right, it’s later repurposed into one of her Recycled works. Her work is influenced by architecture and organic images containing strong line and color. When creating, she likes to push the boundaries of the medium she’s working in, not conforming to a standard use, only to what inspires her.
